PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is the country’s fastest 5G network in the Philippines for the first half of 2021, according to the latest report by Ookla®, the global leader in internet testing and analytics. Smart has also maintained its top position as the fastest mobile network for the fourth year in a row.
The telecommunications and digital service provider records a Speed ScoreTM of 44.70, a big leap from the previous year where Speed ScoreTM was at 24.99, based on 4,949,931 user-initiated tests taken with Speedtest in the Philippines for the period Q1-Q2 2021.
In the latest Fastest 5G Mobile Award report, Smart dominated the top place in the country with a Speed ScoreTM of 204.81, posting median download and upload speeds of 220.66 Mbps and 20.61 Mbps, respectively based on 237,142 user-initiated 5G tests taken with Speedtest in the Philippines for the period Q1-Q2 2021.
The Speedtest AwardTM is given to the top providers in speed based on a Speed ScoreTM, which incorporates a measure of each provider’s download and upload speed to rank network speed performance. Ookla evaluates the average of test results obtained using Modern Chipsets to determine Speedtest Awards winners for mobile networks.
Initial data included in Ookla’s country reports showed that Smart’s 5G speeds are way ahead in key areas nationwide like Manila, where the download speeds are at 268.01 Mbps, with the nearest competition at 81.82 Mbps.
In Cebu City, meanwhile, Smart registered 5G download speeds of 239.03 Mbps where competition is at 99.99 Mbps, while in Davao City, Smart notched 5G download speeds of 209.76 Mbps, whereas competition is at 145.18 Mbps.
