On its 27th founding anniversary, the chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) recapped the help it provided to Filipino students who need financial aid for their studies.
Around 1.5 million students studying in state and local universities and colleges had free tuition and miscellaneous fees through the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
Meanwhile, some 400,000 students received stipends under the Tertiary Education Subsidy during the pandemic, while 400,000 got scholarships under the Grant-in-Aids program, Tulong Dunong.
“The higher education landscape has tremendously changed and continues to transform amidst the pandemic. But I am confident that we will all survive,” the chairman said.
Last year, colleges and universities closed down their campuses due to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, and shifted to online classes and offline method using printed learning materials.
