The Department of Health confirmed 7,174 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of COVID-infected individuals in the Philippines to 1,101,990.
9,197 reportedly recuperated from the disease making the number of recoveries to 1,022,224 or 92.5%, which means the country has a remaining 61,294 or 5.6% active cases as of 4 p.m. Sunday, May 9.
The agency has also recorded 204 new deaths, bringing 18,472 total fatalities. Among these fatalities are 149 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries but were reclassified as following final validation.
On April 26, the country reached a million cases.
Meanwhile, the government has previously said it is keen to have 70 million Filipinos vaccinated by the end of the year. 1.5 million doses of purchased Sinovac vaccine were delivered last May 7, Friday, and 2.03 million AstraZeneca doses through the global COVAX Facility arrived the following day.
