In a call, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a commitment to increase the volume of deliveries of its COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V to the Philippines.
The second telesummit of the two leaders on June 2, was to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Russia.
Duterte, meanwhile, thanked Putin for the access to vaccines but also “reiterated the importance of the expeditious delivery of ordered vaccines.”
So far, the Philippines has received 80,000 Sputnik V doses, with the final batch of 50,000 doses arriving on May 31. The first two batches with 15,000 doses each arrived on May 1 and May 12.
On May 22, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. Said that the country expects a total of 300,000 Sputnik V jabs to arrive in June.
The Philippines is negotiating to buy a total of 20 million doses of the Russian vaccine.
