The Japanese grappler Shinya Aoki III believes Eduard Folayang, a fellow former MMA champion, should keep fighting to overcome his plight. This, after the former forced Folayang to submit in one round during their third bout, ONE Championship — “ONE on TNT” aired on April 29, Thursday (Manila Time).

“Let’s fight again together a couple of years later,” said the Japanese champ.
On their last fight, the 36-year-old Folayang got trapped by Aoki in an armbar at the 4:20 mark of the first round.

Aoki said Folayang should not be discouraged by his straight losses, admitting that he has also suffered from the same predicament especially after he lost to the Filipino rival in their 2016 match.

Their first match was in 2016 in Singapore when Folayang defeated Aoki via third-round technical knockout. Their rematch three years later, was Aoki’s turn to emerge victorious via first-round submission.

“Five years ago, I lost against him. After that, I went through some struggles and a hard time, but I overcame that,” said Aoki. “I think Folayang is having the same situation. He is losing a lot, but I think he can come back again.”

Folayang’s record drops to 22-11 with his recent loss against Aoki as his third in a row and fifth in his last six fights, while it was Aoki’s fourth straight win improving his record to 47-9.
