Soon after the World Health Organization (WHO) gave the Sinopharm’s coronavirus vaccine emergency approval, the Department of Health in the Philippines is now set to apply for emergency use authorization (EUA) of the said vaccine in the country before the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Sinopharm vaccine is the first shot developed by a non-Western country to secure WHO approval and the sixth one to have received the organization’s validation for safety, efficacy, and quality.
However, the Sinopharm vaccine would still need to undergo the regular process set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the EUA application for all Covid-19 vaccines albeit WHO’s go signal.
President Rodrigo Duterte was previously immunized with the donated Sinopharm vaccine without an EUA.
He later apologized and requested that China withdraw its donation. Malacañang had previously stated that the President would still receive his second dose of the China-made vaccine.
